A delightful winter cake that embodies the spirit of the season.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups whipped cream
  • 1 cup chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  5. Stir in boiling water until well combined.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Frost with whipped cream and top with chocolate shavings.

Notes

  • For best results, use room temperature ingredients.
  • You can substitute milk with a non-dairy alternative if desired.
